Interview by Miriam C.

Los Angeles based singer Diamante, despite her young age, shows the power and grit of an experienced artist. It would be strange to you but Diamante, aside of a huge PR machine, has completely self-released her new debut EP called “Dirty Blonde” so we caught up the girl herself, just back from her successful Revolver’s “Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock” tour.

Hi Diamante, first of all, how are you and thank you for this special interview, we know that you are very busy promoting your new upcoming debut EP “Dirty Blonde”. How life is treating you nowadays?

Life has been rad! I just returned from tour about a week ago and I’ve been soaking in as much of Hollywood as I can before I leave. It’s been great seeing everyone and being able to rest, but I am excited to go back out on the road again.

Wow, I’m very blown away by your energy and power and for what I get for my sources you’re only 18 years old, right? Man, you’re very very young and so talented. Congratulations aside, would you like to present yourself to our readers?

Thank you! I’m Diamante, born and raised in Boston, MA now living in Los Angeles. My music is a cross between Lita Ford and Debbie Harry with Gwen Stefani.

What I’m really dying to know is how your musical adventure has started, would like tell us more about your background, Who are your favourite artist(s) has during your career have influenced you?

I’ve been singing everyday since I was six years old- it was then when I was ten that I began doing musical theatre and fell in love with being on stage. I grew up being a very reserved and shy girl, but up in front of a crowd I felt like someone completely different, like the person I was meant to become. My favorite artists that have influenced my music the most have been a mixture of female rock icons from the 80’s like Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, etc. and bands/artists like Led Zeppelin, In This Moment, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, Motley Crue and Marilyn Manson. I also grew up being influenced by pop music like Gwen Stefani, Pink, Ashlee Simpson and Kelly Clarkson.

On April 7, 2015 will be released worldwide your EP “Dirty Blonde” that was anticipated by the Billboard #3 single “Bite Your Kiss”. First and foremost, how was the genesis of this EP, do you have some nice memories to share about its recordings? After this EP are you planning to release a full-length?

“Dirty Blonde” is more free-spirited and not very serious, but it was so much fun to write, every session in the studio was a blast and we would always end up dying of laughter. I’m in the point in my life where all I want to do is have a good time and be fearless, so this last EP reflects that. I do plan on going back into the studio very soon, this time with even more grit and integrity lyrically. I want to create authentic rock n’ roll.

“Dirty Blonde” is consist of 5 hard-hitting songs and what I’m wondering is how are you able to deliver such anger in your lyrics for being so young. Would you like to delve into the lyrics thematic’? And I like to stress out the fact that beside being a great performer you write your OWN songs ALONE, right?

I’m not entirely sure when I discovered my grit, but I’ve lived through many things for being so young, and the experiences I’ve had meant for someone beyond my years have made me the person I am today. I naturally have rebellion, angst, and sexuality inside of me, and they all come out when I sing. I do write my own songs, however, on this last EP, I didn’t write them alone. I worked with a producer and we essentially wrote the music together. Our thought process for this EP especially was: what shocking, provocative thing can we think of while still being edgy and true to rock music.

Beside a great artist, I’m used to think that there’s always a great backing band and a great producer behind. How was working with Kevin Savigar (Rod Stewart) for your singles “Goodbye”, “Savage” & “Burns”? Wanna give a shout out to your musicians? For this upcoming EP, did you still worked with Kevin or did you choose to change producer?

Kevin was great to work with! I believe he really began turning my sound into the 80’s rock genre that I always wanted to have. The only slow song (“Burns”) I’ve ever recorded was with him, and it was the first time I really learned how to open up lyrically. “Goodbye” was actually a song I wrote with a production company called Baby G Music along with musicians Joshua Hernandez, Ryan Wilson and Sheldon Bonada who I played with at the time.

I discovered that your EP will be released by your own imprint called Diamond Certified Records. Currently it’s better to have the control over your material or being pushed by a major and not have any say about anything? From your PERSONAL point of view, what are the prons and cons?

Pros would have to be like you said, there is more control over the material and being able to have a say about the music itself and how to go about releasing it. However, pushing independently is very difficult and expensive. Major labels not only have a great platform, but the right funding.

Back in 2014, you’ve published on your VEVO channel a series of live performances recorded in a single take called “Verified Live Performance Series” that feature 4 different cover from Nirvana, Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar. Again, I was impressed by all the interpretations but the one that conquered my heart was “Edge of Seventeen”. There’s a specific reason that prompted you to decide to play these songs? What personally means for you these songs?

I have a fascination with classic rock and the 80’s especially. For some reason even I haven’t figured out yet, I feel a deeper connection when I sing those songs than when I sing current music on pop radio. “Edge of Seventeen” has such a magical feeling about it that almost puts me into a trance whenever I sing it, maybe I love the nostalgia about it.

For what I get music is a family affair, right? Your sister Sole is working some music too. Do you want to introduce her to our readers?

Yes! My sister and I have always possessed a passion for music and been connected by music, however her style and look couldn’t be more opposite than mine. She’s a fantastic vocalist and loves pop/r&b. She’s only younger than be by about a year and half and we are very close. She has released some covers and is working on releasing original material soon.

Recently you’re named one of Revolver‘s “Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock” and you will be part of that tour. What are you feelings about it?

It has been surreal! I feel so honored to be considered a true female rock artist especially by a magazine like Revolver who is as legit as it gets. I was thrilled to be part of the tour, not only because it my first tour, but because the line-up is incredible and I have been a Flyleaf fan for a very long time.

What are your next tour plans? Where your fans can catch you in the next days?

I will be heading out again to tour with Whitesnake the beginning of June and will be on the road with them for that month. I will also be touring with Hinder towards the end of June and for the month of July. I will be posting tour dates and ticket links soon on all of my social media accounts!

So, Diamante, it’s time for your parting words – I really thank you for time – please greet freely our readers and your fans. Thanks again!

Of course, thank you for having me! And thank you to all of the fans for downloading “Dirty Blonde” and coming out to all of the shows. Make sure to stay updated via Facebook and Twitter about upcoming shows!
