Hi Celeste, welcome to Femme Metal Webzine. How are you and how is today treating you?

I’m good, thank you! Today’s been great. There’s been a change in the weather here in Australia—it went from really hot to nice. But we’re used to it; I think we go through all four seasons in one day anyway!

The origins of GhostSeeker

Celeste, I wanted to ask you about how Ghostseeker came together. I know you’re getting ready to release your debut album, “Divergence”. And you’ve already released the EP “Initium Novum” back in 2022. How did you come together with the band?

Yeah, well, we originally started as a band called Letters to Amara, which had a slightly different genre. More pop-punk, a little more fun, and a lot more colorful. From there, we realized we needed to evolve our sound to keep progressing together.

During that transition, we found a few new members, while some decided to go in different directions. That’s when we met our incredible Daniel Breen from Storm the Sky, who is now on drums. We also have Daniel Gay (from Anyone, Anyone) on board. And then there’s Cory Walkeden, who was originally our bass player back in the Letters to Amara days but is now our guitarist. So, realistically, Tim Campey and I carried the band forward and brought together the rest of Ghostseeker, and that’s who you see today.

Ghostseekers on the production of “Divergence”

“Divergence” is set to be released at the end of April. I wanted to ask—how was the experience working with two producers on the album? You’ve come a long way since the “Initium Novum” EP in 2022. And now, in 2025, it’s finally time for the full-length release. After so much regional touring and everything in between, what was it like working on this album?

It was fun! It did take a little while, especially with COVID hitting in the middle of it, which unfortunately slowed things down a bit. But in a way, I think it gave us a lot of inspiration for some of the songs. It allowed us to express how that time made us feel and how we wanted to come out of it with a positive mindset as a band.

On top of that, for those who don’t know, I was also pregnant with my first little one during the process. So we had quite a few things happening at the same time!

What you’re going to hear on Divergence is truly an amalgamation of everything we’ve experienced over the last few years, and we can’t wait for you all to hear it!

The signing of Ghostseeker with ROAR!RMP

Okay, I also know that this album will be released through ROAR!, an imprint of RPM. I was curious—how did you guys come into contact with them? Being an Australian band on the other side of the hemisphere, it’s interesting to see how that connection happened, especially considering the time difference. It’s about 10 AM in Melbourne right now, while it’s around 8 PM over here in Europe. Since they have a European-based team, how did that partnership come about?

Honestly, it was a cool and surprising experience. We received a video and an email submission from the former owner of RPM, though at the time, it was still Atomic Fire.

He had come across our video for “Live to Hate Me” from our previous EP and reached out to us, asking if we’d be interested in working together. At first, we were pretty shocked—having a European label approach our little Aussie band, especially when we had only released one song at that point, felt almost unreal.

We weren’t sure if it was legitimate at first, but he sent us a compelling video showcasing his pinball machines, which, I have to admit, we were pretty excited and entertained by! So yeah, that’s how the relationship started.

Shooting the video of “Wake Up, Impostor”

I wanted to ask you about your new single, “Wake Up, Impostor”, and the filming of its music video. I’ve also watched your previous videos, and it’s clear that you put a lot of effort into them. They’re not just simple lyric videos—they’re well-crafted and thoughtfully produced. It seems like you invest in the visual aspect of your music. Can you tell me more about the creative process behind this one?

Thank you! Yeah, we have a lot of creative minds behind our videos. Daniel Breen, our vocalist, is especially involved—he puts forward a lot of storyboarding ideas. But collectively, when we come together, we have specific visions and concepts we want to bring to life.

Sometimes, lyric videos just don’t convey what we want them to. We know that visually, people enjoy seeing the band and connecting with the music in a more immersive way. That’s something we’ve always aimed for with our singles—to create an experience that truly reflects the emotions behind the music.

So what you see in our videos is exactly what we want you to see and feel. We believe it’s the best way for people to interact with our music.

The meaning of the Seraphim

You mentioned that “Wake Up, Impostor” was one of the songs that sparked the entire writing process for “Divergence”. How challenging was the production of this track? Also, what’s the connection with the Seraphim that we see in the video?

Yeah, so it ties into the idea of not feeling like you truly belong in your own body or persona, and not feeling adequate or enough, whether that’s due to your achievements or just the outcomes that come your way.

On another level, the connection with the Seraphim angels symbolizes the idea of hiding yourself, with the angels shining a light to expose you for what they truly see. They act as soldiers of the light, working under the will of the Lord, revealing who you truly are and showing you what you need to become. It’s a bit of a back-and-forth between not feeling right, but then being exposed for what you’re meant to be, you know?

Looking back…

Back in 2022, you guys released the EP “Initium Novum” through Dreambound. Looking back at that production, what do you feel you’ve achieved this time around with “Divergence”? What have you learned through the process?

Yeah, definitely. I think we’ve just grown a lot as a band. When we first started, we were coming fresh out of a genre we were very familiar with and really happy with, but what we wanted to do was evolve as the people we were. Those first videos tried to showcase that growth between genres.

As we progressed, you could see the bigger shift towards a darker, more atmospheric sound. The videos back then were still a bit fun, very crisp and clear, and we played around with a lot of different visuals and collaborators. But as time went on, we tried to tap into that darker side, showcasing who we wanted to be and how we wanted to present ourselves.

The thing that remained consistent through it all, though, was the same video production team. They stuck by us, and they understood our vision every step of the way out there, which was great.

GhostSeeker conquering Europe

Considering that you’re based in Australia, what are your plans in terms of promotion? I know you’ve built a strong underground following in Australia over the years, having toured a lot in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney, which has helped you establish a solid fan base. But how do you plan to approach a European tour, for example, and how will you adapt to the different atmosphere over there?

How will it work? Well, we’re just hoping the European market will love us as much as we love them. We’ve all grown up listening to European bands that have greatly influenced our music and helped shape who we are as people. If we ever got the chance to play alongside some of those bands we grew up with—oh my goodness, you’d see a whole different, more playful, crazier side of Ghostseeker, that’s for sure! We’re super excited and can’t wait to share the stage with some of those bands.

Plans for GhostSeeker

So what’s next for Ghostseeker? I know you’ve got a few dates lined up in Australia at the moment, but what does the future hold for the band?

We do have a tour coming up! We’re about to go on a national tour showcasing our Divergence album, and from there, we’re hoping to keep pushing further and further. Ultimately, we just can’t wait to connect with some of the bands we grew up with. We’d love to share the stage with them and be around them, especially since none of them are here in Australia.

So, Celeste, I wanted to thank you for the interview. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time. I wish you a nice evening.

No, thank you so much to everybody listening and listening to Ghostseeker, even if you haven’t before, catch us. You know, we’re a big bunch of geese, no matter how dark we look. Thank you for having me. Thank you.
