On January 24, Scottish rock/metalcore band VUKOVI will unveil their latest creation, MY GOD HAS GOT A GUN, through SharpTone Records. With its provocative title, this audacious release promises an explosive and fearless dive into the band’s ever-evolving artistry. To learn more about this bold endeavor, we sat down with singer Janine Shilstone for an in-depth conversation.
VUKOVI and the new album MY GOD HAS GOT A GUN
Hi Janine, welcome to Femme Metal Webzine. How are you? And how is life treating you?
Equal parts happy and terrified. We are always so on edge when it comes to releasing new music.
Recently, VUKOVI announced their highly anticipated fourth album, MY GOD HAS GOT A GUN, set to be unleashed on January 24th, 2025. Can you share any insights into the production process and what fans can expect from this release?
It’s a different concept but there are some consistent themes throughout all records. This is the most honest/unapologetic record we’ve done. The process was pretty terrifying as I was going through some pretty intense therapy where I found my love for painting again. This album was my vessel to make peace with a lot of shadows.
VUKOVI and working with Machine
The album was produced by the legendary Machine at The Machine Shop Recording Studio in Austin. How was it to work with him? And what was the most important lesson that you have learned in this experience?
We really bonded with Machine when we were out in Texas with him and it certainly pushed us out of our comfort zones. We’d never done a full record in one go before which was also another challenge but it allowed us to fully immerse in the process with no distractions.
VUKOVI’s fourth effort “MY GOD HAS GOT A GUN” will be released via Sharptone Records. How has signing this deal impacted VUKOVI’s journey so far?
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. We have loved working with them so far.
A bold new chapter for VUKOVI
Artists often prefer to let their music do the talking, but with your new album, a bold new chapter of sound is about to unfold. How do these songs explore places we’ve all experienced but rarely express?
I think this record is a reflection of someone in the midst of facing their shadows, being very angry, self-pity at times, making peace with themselves and others, and also trying and enjoy their life at the same time.
I had the time to attentively watch the latest two singles “GUNGHO” and “MISTY ECSTASY”. Love them. Could you share some insights into the behind-the-scenes process of creating them?
We have an incredible team of artists that we’ve worked with for years as well as working with new people who inspire us. We love being involved in the visuals and having fun with them.
The upcoming European tour
In February, VUKOVI will embark on a European tour, including two Dutch dates in Eindhoven and Haarlem. What can listeners expect from your live performances?
A chance to let go and forget about your shit for a minute
So, Janine, we’re almost at the end. Please be free to say hi to your fans and readers. Thank you so much for this interview.
We love and appreciate your support and can’t wait to play these songs live! X
