BONNIE LI – new album announced

After receiving waves of support for her Trip-Hop/Pop EP ‘Plane Crash’ at the end of 2017, French singer-songwriter-composer Bonnie Li returned with her debut Dark-Pop studio album ‘Wǒ Men’ in January 2019, a part-autobiographical, part-fiction collection with the aim to explore the emotions and fears she experienced in the 2 years between the two releases. Today, Bonnie Li is ready to present her second full-length album ‘Le Bleu du Rouge’, which the artist herself describes as “a stroll on the amorous shores, thought of as a voyage, between dreams and desires “.

Born in a Marseille family and raised in Hong Kong, Bonnie Li began her adult life in Paris and is now based between Berlin and Marseille. She writes, composes and sings her touching ‘Trip Pop’ in three languages (English, French & Chinese Mandarin), and has been praised by the likes of Clash MagazineEarmilk and Rough Trade for her eclectic taste and cinematic music. As a romantic and feminist, Bonnie Li reflects on the place given to women in our societies and explores recurrent themes like ‘the heroine woman’‘the mystery of feelings’ and ‘power dynamics’.  Now, with her latest singles ‘All about You’ (FIP Nouveautés, RollingStone), ‘So Hard’ feat. Coeur (Equal – Spotify France Editorial Playlist), ‘Chinese Talk’  (FIP Nouveautés, Midnight Chill – Spotify Japan Editorial Playlist) & ‘Stalker’ (Fresh Indie Global – JOOX Editorial Playlist, New Music Alert – Resso Editorial Playlist, synched in movie ‘Ogre’ by Arnaud Malherbe) just out, Bonnie Li will release her 2nd full-length album on April 22.

‘Le Bleu du Rouge’ which translates to “The Blue within the Red”, explores love in different shapes and forms, Bonnie tells us: “It’s a very intimate, more gentle album. Written during the first lockdown as all my tours got canceled, I felt I had to come back to the core – to my inner self. I am a very romantic person, and I wanted to emphasize this romance which is part of my life. You can deal with serious things by wrapping them in something sweet. This is also what I wanted to present in ‘Le Bleu du Rouge’.”

The new full-length showcases original arrangements and striking sound design with a minimalistic approach,  giving way to Bonnie’s voice, sometimes whispered, then rounder and stronger, hovering over layers of synths and trip-hop rhythms. . She goes on to explain: “Blue mixed in red gives purple, a color that invites passion, dreams, intimacy and has a touch of mystery. ‘Le Bleu du Rouge’ is exactly that”.

While receiving great media coverage on her studio-productions (RollingStoneThe Line of BestFitsRough Trade, Sync on Arte TV Serie ‘Moloch’+230k views on ‘I Want You To Die’ MV) performing live is definitely one of her strongest suits.

Charismatic and touching in her one-woman-show, the singer balances between tension and release while adding to the experience with live vocal samples, mixing her mezzo soprano harmonies with airy synths, all on deep and catchy beats. She has been seen on festivals such as MarsatacLes Francofolies, numerous LGBTQI+ scenes in Europe and Turkey and was coming back from a month-long tour in Italy and 2 tours in the USA before the pandemic hit. Now she’s preparing for her release shows with Al’Tarba on June 10 at Urban Spree in Berlin, and at Le Supersonic in Paris on July 6.

With this impressive history in her wake, Bonnie Li will release her 2nd full length album ‘Le Bleu du Rouge’on all major platforms through Icons Creating Evil Art on April 22, 2022.
