Review by Tony Cannella
After releasing their debut in 2011 the California based hard rock/metal outfit Edge of Paradise followed that up with the excellent “Immortal Waltz” disc in 2015. A few months ago, the band unleashed their new single “Shade of Crazy” which served as a pre-cursor to their new EP, “Alive”, which I am pleased to say is out now. The 19-minute EP opens with gritty introductory guitar riff of “Alive”. Lead singer Margarita Monet has one of the more unique voices in metal. She offers something different with her style and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she is definitely quite talented and has a ton of charisma. In fact the whole band is working like a well-oiled machine at this point. Next, we have “Dust to Dust” which has a sexy vibe to it and easily became one of my early favorites. “Mystery” is a haunting ballad and another one that I would put right up there among my faves. Next, we have the aforementioned single “Shade of Crazy” which is just as good today as the day I first heard it. And finally we have “Humanoid” to bring this “Alive” EP to a satisfying conclusion. Edge of Paradise offers the listener something different than most of the hard rock/metal bands out today. Different but very appealing. “Alive” is another first-rate release for this outstanding band.
