Acid was an influential band from Belgium that flew slightly under the radar. The band always had an affinity for passionate heavy metal, and that fact can’t be denied. The band has returned under the monicker Kate’s Acid, led by powerhouse vocalist Kate De Lombaert. They have just released their live album – “Blowing Your Ears Off” (out now via Germany’s High Roller Records) – recorded live at the legendary Keep it True Fest in Germany in 2003.
The album gets off to a bombastic start with an intro and then the classic “Maniac”. Kate’s Acid is tearing it up, and this is the perfect opener. The momentum continues with the great “Hooked on Metal.” The frenzied “No Time” is next. The band follows that up with a great cover of the DIO classic “Stand Up and Shout”. From there, the highlights keep coming: “Let Me Die”, “Hell on Wheels”, “Lost in Hell” and “Max Overload” to name a few.
It’s tough to pinpoint why Acid never achieved greater success. “Blowing Your Ears Off” is a passionate and honest live record. Kate’s Acid is on fire, and the material performed here reminds us how underrated the band is/was.
