Review by Miss Peaches
“The Great Lie” is the third album from Pierre le Pape‘s metal opera project Melted Space. This album features a wide cast of vocalists and musicians from bands such as Orphaned Land, Shining and Sirenia – just to name a few. The concept of this album is something that really speaks to me on many levels, I love the idea behind all things metal opera, stemming from my love of “Repo! The Genetic Rock Opera”. Upon listening to the first track you are welcomed into a listener’s paradise “Listen to the Song of Despair”, the vocal combination sets the scene perfectly describing the elements of battle which has taken place to create despair, with the combination of female vocals making this song truly take flight! A killer start to the album, but I shall not give too much away (where is the fun in that). I’ll fast-forward a little into the album and focus on the solo in “A God Is Dead”: I have chosen to this one in particular as it is one that stands out when it comes to showing real true emotion in the vocals whose outstanding job was done by The Old Dead Tree‘s Manuel Munoz in portraying the loss of a leader. I would have to say to me my personal favorite track would have to be “Hopeless Crime” as it has such power in the opening, although I have to say I have really struggled when it comes to choosing a favorite track throughout this album as it has a outstanding feel throughout its entirety.
