Review by Tony Cannella
One of my favorite things about this gig is getting the chance to hear music that I normally would not be exposed to. Of course, it is great getting the chance to listen/review many established artists, but I really look forward to hearing undiscovered talent and I have found out over the years that there are many great bands that simply haven’t gotten the recognition that they deserve. Hidden gems can be found anywhere, sometimes all you have to do is looks. One such band is Italy‘s Windshades. On their debut, EP “Crucified Dreams” the band treats the listener 3-songs and 14-minutes worth of high caliber symphonic power metal. Throughout the course of “Crucified Dreams”, Windshades displays a high level of musical proficiency and the vocals of Chiara Manzoli are nothing short of breathtaking. As the opening track “Metafora” kicks in, we are off and running. This is a cool opener with plenty of rock solid metal riffs, a galloping pace, and superb operatic vocals. The tempo gets slowed a bit for the opening of the next track “Resurrection” before the band kicks it into high gear. The EP is completed with grinding final track “Crucified Dreams” which contains the heaviest of riffs and is overall probably the heaviest track. Overall, I was very impressed with “Crucified Dreams” and would love to hear more from Windshades in the future.
